Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

Traveling from the east or the west on Interstate 10: Take Exit #17A, Hwy 193 South, to Dauphin Island (DO NOT TAKE: Hwy 163 Dauphin Island Parkway, which is an exit in Mobile) At this point you are about 25 miles from the island. (Note: There is a Super Wal-mart as you exit north 193. Many people stop here to buy supplies and groceries for their trip.) Stay on Hwy 193 South. After about 6 miles, at a three way stop sign the highway will take a turn to the left, then 1 mile, at another stop sign the road will turn to the right, but it still is Hwy 193. Follow Hwy 193. The first sight of big water is as you drive along a causway with Mobile Bay. Next, you will go over a large concrete bridge crossing the Intracoastal Waterway and onto the Dauphin Island. Once you are on the bridge, leave all your worries and pressures behind, take a deep breath and get ready to relax and Catch Some Fish! The Boat is located at the Dauphin Island Marina on pier A.

What do I need to bring on the trip?

You should bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat and any beverages or food you wish to consume while on board. Your tackle, the bait and plenty of hungry, aggressive fish are supplied. At least a 40- quart cooler should be brought to hold the fish you are going to catch. Oh! Don't forget your camera or camcorder!

What should I wear?

Remember we are in the deep South. If your charter is planned for the late Spring, Summer or early Fall months make sure you have cool, comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. You may want to have a windbreaker or light sweater/jacket tucked in your ditty bag, next to the sunscreen, sunglasses, and any medicines you must take. If your charter is for any other time, you may want to consider a little heavier type or a complete change of clothing.

Do you have a restroom on board?

"Definitely yes!"  There is also a place to change clothes.

When is the best time to schedule a charter?

The best time is when you have the time to not only go fishing but, to enjoy the best of what Dauphin Island has to offer. Technically, our season is year long, with downtime for  maintenance between mid-December through the end of February.

Where can I stay and dine?

Dauphin Island has excellent accommodations with beach house rentals, condos, and three small Motels. Check with Gulf Information Pages for options and prices, or call us at any time for suggestions.

Should I make reservations and how far in advance should they be made?

Reservations are strongly recommended as far in advance as practical. Seventy percent (70%) of my clients are repeat fisherfolks that have fished with me for years. Some reserve their special day as much as a year in advance. However, "last minute" calls are welcomed for we do have unforeseen cancellations.

How do I make reservations and pay the deposit?

The reservation page has a form for you to fill out. This is emailed to me with a confirmation given to you that it has been sent.  If you are paying by check or money order, upon receipt of same, I will call you to confirm your reservation. If you are paying by Visa or Master Card, I will call you upon receipt of the email and confirm the deposit payment over the phone. Reservations should be made as far in advance as possible. If you are looking for a special date make sure you put that in your "first choice" selection box. If there are any other comments or questions you may have, use the Special Requirements or Comment areas, or just pick up the phone and call me on our toll free line, 1 800 441 2499 We can talk fishin' and handle your reservation too.

What if bad weather makes it impossible to go fishing?

There are times when King Neptune does not wish to cooperate. On those rare occasions when the weather is too bad to set sail, I will do my best to re-schedule your charter. If rescheduling is impossible, your deposit will be returned.

Do I have to buy a fishing license?

There is no license required while you are on my charter boat.

Where do you fish?

Within 30 minutes of leaving the dock we will be in the open  waters of the Gulf of Mexico. From your boating advantage you will pass through the mouth of Mobile Bay, proceed South of the Sand Island Light House. The exact fishing area is where the fish are biting that day.

Can my children come on the trip?

Yes and No!

I have taught many children to fish, on and off shore. My experience is that those children under 8 years of age, are usually true landlubbers. And yes, I know each child is unique but remember, a child’s distress or discomfort doesn’t allow for a great time to be had by the parent(s) or others. So leave the little ones at home and come catch the big ones!
